MANATEE - The Manatee County Sheriff's Office dive team retrieved a man's body from a pond at the Bayshore on the Lake rental community Friday morning.

The man's name has not been released, but he did have identification. A deputy recognized him as a homeless man from the area, according to the sheriff's office.

Foul play is not suspected, said Dave Bristow, sheriff's office spokesman.

"There are no obvious signs of trauma," he said.

Deputies responded to the scene on Lake Bayshore Drive about 9:15 a.m. after a woman living in the complex reported seeing what she believed to be a body just a few feet from a dock in the pond.

The man was retrieved from the water about 10:15 a.m.

Deputies believe he was in the water for a couple of days. Several residents told deputies they saw something floating in the water Thursday afternoon, but could not identify the object.

An autopsy is needed to determine the cause and manner of death, Bristow said.
