Big Cat Habitat "World Animal Day" Celebration: 7101 Palmer Blvd., Sarasota

Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary, in partnership with many local animal welfare organizations, will host a free educational and fun World Animal Day Celebration 3-7 p.m. Oct. 4 commemorating St. Francis of Assisi The event includes educational presentations by experts on exotic and endangered animals, activities for children. Visitors also may tour the facility for an up close experience with the habitat's residents, including tigers, lions, cougars, leopards, bears, primates, birds, coatimundies, and many more animals, as well as a petting zoo. The Manatee Sunrise Kiwanis Club and the Early Learning Coalition will host the "Kiwanis Classic Kar-B-Q" featuring classic cars, custom trucks and motorcycles, craft and food vendors, and live music by The Groove, The Venturas, Big Daddy, Crushing Myrna, Katalyst, Whiskey Blind, Wikked Jester and The Gypsy King Band. Manatee County's 18th Annual Manatee Children's Summit "Strong Families Create Strong Communities" will be 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 6 featuring great family entertainment including a rock wall, a bounce house, the Mote Marine touch tank and other activities such as a police race car, bike and pedestrian safety, free bike helmet giveaways and great information on parenting, child care, after school and special needs programs and services.
