MANATEE -- A crane operator was injured Wednesday morning when his machine overturned outside a Bradenton school.
Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue responded to Bradenton Prep Academy at 10:50 a.m. where they found the driver sitting on the ground. He was able to remove himself from the crane and was taken to Blake Medical Center for evaluation, said Battalion Chief Sam Collier.
First responders were able to contain a leak from the crane, Collier said. No other injuries were reported.
The operator was moving a shipping container on the school's property, Collier said. A representative for the crane company said a possible weight shift may have caused the machine to flip on its side.
"For a bad thing to happen, it had a good outcome," Collier said. "The driver wasn't killed and no students were hurt."
Responders were standing by after the incident until a second crane arrived to upright the overturned machine.
