Palmetto woman charged with arson

October 2, 2012

MANATEE -- A 50-year-old Palmetto woman was arrested Saturday and charged with second-degree arson.

Police say Gladys E. Adams, intentionally set a fire at 115 12th St. Ct. E., Palmetto, which is also listed as her address.

A Manatee County Sheriff's Office report, however, indicates that Adams is not the owner of the home.

The report states that the defendant accelerated the fire.

Two witnesses told police that they saw the defendant go into the dwelling, then saw the defendant exit the building and quickly enter a vehicle.

The witnesses further told police they saw the defendant speed away as smoke and flames appeared inside the dwelling.

The witnesses attempted to put out the fire, but were unsuccessful.

They did rescue a dog on a leash at the dwelling, the report indicates.

Adams' bond was set at $25,000 and she was in the Manatee County jail Tuesday.
