SARASOTA -- A 38-year-old Sarasota woman has been charged with murder in the death of her boyfriend, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

About 1:39 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a residence in the 1500 block of 25th Street and found James Vernon West, 51, dead.

Tracey Lynn Walls, who had been in a long-term domestic relationship with West, was arrested. She faces charges of murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections website, Walls in 2006 served four months in prison after she was convicted in Manatee County of grand theft, uttering and credit card fraud.
