BRADENTON -- "Harry Potter" book series illustrator Mary GrandPré has brought her iconic soft-geometry style artistry, and some nice name recognition, to the inaugural Bradenton Blues Festival.
The poster features a guitar-wielding blues man performing while surrounded by a wonderfully funky collection of highway fixtures.
GrandPré, who donated the art work, attended the private party for sponsors on Saturday at Jennings Arcade in downtown Bradenton where her design was unveiled to about 200 attendees.
The Bradenton Blues Festival, featuring Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Ruthie Foster and other national acts, is set for Dec. 1.
The event will be held at the redesigned Riverwalk, along the Manatee River in downtown Bradenton.
GrandPré's editorial work and children's book illustra
tions have received national recognition. The Sarasota resident was featured on the cover of Time magazine for her illustrations in the acclaimed "Harry Potter" book series.
"The Bradenton Blues Festival and its music outreach programs are inspired ways to educate young people about the importance of music," GrandPré said in a statement. "I'm really excited that I can contribute to this important effort."
Posters signed by the artist are available for $50 to support Realize Bradenton's youth and music programs. For more information, email johnette@RealizeBradenton.com.
