Lakewood Ranch girls cross country team third at University of Florida

GAINESVILLE — The Lakewood Ranch girls cross country team placed third out of 39 teams at the prestigious University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational.

Kristin Zarrella led the way for the Mustangs, finishing in 14th place with a time of 20 minutes, 2 seconds. Katie Wray came in 17th in 20:13, and Natalie Novak was 31st in 20:43. Michelle Last (39th, 21:10) and Emily Perez (50th, 21:30) rounded out the Ranch scoring.

The Mustangs scored 146 points, behind only Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas and Oak Hall.

ELSEWHERE — The Lakewood Ranch boys finished eighth in the 32-team Fort Myers Optimist Invitational. Fort Myers won the event. Mitch Arnold paced the Mustangs, coming in 23rd in 18:01.
