Tampa Bay Bucs' opener will not be televised locally

Published: September 6, 2012

Bradenton residents won't get two watch either of their "home" teams play on television this week. Sunday's game between the Carolina Panthers, who are visiting IMG Academy this week, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has been blacked out because the Bucs failed to sell enough tickets.

Even though it's the debut of a new Bucs head coach in Greg Schiano and the 200th consecutive start of Tampa Bay icon Ronde Barber, the Bucs couldn't sell the NFL-required minimum of 85 percent of Raymond James Stadium's non-premium seats.

The game begins at 4:25 p.m. and will air on FOX, but not on televisions within 75 miles of Tampa. Fans can listen to the game at 620-AM or 103.5-FM.

All eight of the Bucs' home games were blacked out in 2011.
