PORT ST. LUCIE -- The Bradenton Marauders fell 7-3 to the St. Lucie Mets to wrap up their road schedule at Digital Domain Park on Friday.
The Marauders went 2-8 in Port St. Lucie this season.
The Mets (32-33) set the tone for the game in the first inning. Chase Huchingson struck out the side and then watched his teammates plate four runs against Jhonathan Ramos (L, 6-3).
By the time the sixth innings rolled around the Mets had built a 6-0 lead and Huchingson had 11 strikeouts. The Marauders fought back to plate a run in the sixth on a Mel Rojas Jr. sacrifice fly after a Kirk Singer triple.
Bradenton (31-34) chased Huchingson in the seventh, loading the bases with no outs and scoring on another sacrifice fly. Jeffrey Walters came on and allowed only one inherited runner to score, leaving the Mets lead at 6-3.
Erik Turgeon struck out a half dozen batters in three innings of relief. Turgeon finished the game for Bradenton, allowing only an unearned run to create the final margin. Adam Kolarek pitched a scoreless ninth for St. Lucie.
The series continues at McKechnie Field on Saturday night when the Marauders hold fan appreciation night and "Babies on Deck" presented by Manatee Memorial Hospital and Anna Maria Oyster Bar. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. with gates opening at 5:30 p.m. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a limited edition Trevor Gooby bobble baby and the game will be followed by fireworks presented by Gold Coast Eagle Distributing.
