JUPITER -- The Marauders (29-30) were trumped by the Jupiter Hammerheads (32-26) in game one of a three game series Friday night. In a game that featured two weather delays, the Hammerheads scored five times late to score a 6-2 win. The loss drops Bradenton to 3.5 games out of first place.
The Marauders pushed across a run in the first inning against Jose Fernandez to open the scoring. Gift Ngoepe singled with one out and moved to third on a Mel Rojas Jr. double. A wild pitch scored Ngoepe to make it 1-0 Marauders.
Jupiter tied the score in the third. Ryan Fisher's second double of the game plated Terrence Dayleg. Christian Yelich was thrown out at the plate on the play and the inning ended with the score tied.
Kenn Kasparek (L, 0-5) pitched into the seventh for the first time this season, but was lifted after surrendering a leadoff single to Marcell Ozuna. Brian McConkey tripled against Josh Poytress to bring home Ozuna. After a brief rain delay, Poytress returned to the mound and surrendered an RBI-single to Noah Perio, putting Jupiter in front 3-1.
Kirk Singer tripled to lead off the top of the eighth against Raudel Lazo (W, 7-1). After two outs, Rojas doubled home Singer to cut the lead to one. Michael Brady entered and got Alex Dickerson to ground out. After Jupiter added three runs in the bottom of the eighth, Brady pitched a perfect ninth for the save.
Rojas finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI for the Marauders. Marcell Ozuna tormented the Marauders again with three hits, including a two-RBI double off Emmanuel De Leon in the eigth.
