Fort Myers Miracle miscue keys Bradenton Marauders in victory

Published: August 23, 2012

FORT MYERS -- The Bradenton Marauders scored two runs on a Fort Myers Miracle miscue and leaned on a brilliant pitching performance for a 2-1 win on Wednesday night at Hammond Stadium.

The win keeps the Marauders two games behind the Jupiter Hammerheads in the South Division standings.

Kyle Kaminska followed up his outstanding Marauders' debut with another solid performance, pitching seven innings and allowing just one run on six hits. Fort Myers scratched across one run in the second inning, but that was all they mustered. Kaminska struck out six, did not walk a batter and set down the final 10 batters he faced.

In the sixth inning with two outs, Alex Dickerson looped a single into left field off Miracle starter Tom Stuifbergen. Justin Howard followed with a double to put two in scoring position. Carlos Paulino grounded back to Stuifbergen, whose throw to first pulled Steve Liddle off the bag. Liddle then threw across the diamond to try and catch Howard rounding the bag, but Anderson Hidalgo dropped the throw. Howard scored on the second error of the play to give the Marauders a 2-1 lead.

Stuifbergen's error overshadowed his brilliant pitching. The righty went the full nine innings, allowing only six hits, striking out three. Neither team allowed a walk on the night.

Jhonathan Ramos pitched a perfect eighth for the hold. Doug Salinas picked up his ninth save with a one-two-three ninth. Salinas struck out two batters. The last Miracle base runner reached with one out in the fourth.

Paulino led the offense by going 2-for-4 in addition to his grounder that led to the two Marauders' runs.

The rubber match of the series is Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Pregame coverage will begin on News Talk 930 WLSS at 6:45 p.m.
