Marauders drop series opener to Miracle in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS -- The Bradenton Marauders fell 3-2 in their series opener against the Miracle Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium.

The Marauders allowed three unanswered runs after leading 2-0 in the first.

The Marauders (28-28) plated both of their runs with two outs in the first. Mel Rojas Jr. took Matt Summers deep for a solo home run. Alex Dickerson followed the homer with a single and moved to second when Justin Howard was hit by a pitch. Elevys Gonzalez singled home Dickerson.

Summers settled down to pitch 5 2/3 innings with six strikeouts. The Marauders stranded seven against the combination of Summers, Nelvin Fuentes and Michael Tonkin.

Fort Myers (26-31) scored a run in the fifth against Casey Sadler to cut the Marauders lead in half. Danny Ortiz doubled. Two grounders to second base moved Ortiz over and in for the run.

Ortiz sparked a rally against Quinton Miller in the seventh. The Miracle outfielder singled with one out and moved to second on a walk to Kyle Knudson. Ortiz scored on an RBI-single by Anderson Hidalgo to tie the score.

In the eighth, three straight singles, the final coming from Josmil Pinto, plated the go-ahead run for the Miracle. Zach Foster pitched the sixth to take the loss.

Alex Dickerson finished 2-for-3 with a single and a double.

The Marauders and Miracle continue their series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Pregame coverage will begin on News Talk 930 WLSS and WLSSradio.com at 6:45 p.m.
