Charlotte Stone Crabs rock Bradenton Marauders 8-1 in series opener

— The Charlotte Stone Crabs ripped nine extra-base hits, including two home runs, and used a pair of four-run innings to get past the Bradenton Marauders 8-1 on Tuesday at Charlotte Sports Park.

The Stone Crabs scored four runs off Bradenton starter Eliecer Navarro in the third inning. Riccio Torrez’s two-run homer was the big hit.

In the sixth, Charlotte racked up four more runs against Quinton Miller. Robi Estrada launched a three-run homer.

Bradenton managed just five hits. Carlos Mesa had two.

The Marauders visit the Stone Crabs again at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

ELSEWHERE — Marauders pitcher Jameson Taillon has been named the Florida State League pitcher of the week. Taillon, the Pirates’ first-round draft choice in 2011, pitched 12 scoreless innings over two starts. He went 1-0, striking out eight, walking three and allowing four hits.
