Keith Fitzgerald, who is trying to oust U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan from Congress, has raised about $22,000 more than Buchanan in campaign contributions since July 1, according to recent reports filed with the Federal Elections Committee.
Buchanan still holds an overall lead in fundraising, but the reports show that Fitzgerald has not lost the financial momentum established in earlier filings.
Since July 1, Fitzgerald has reported collecting more than $69,000. Buchanan reported almost $47,000 in contributions, according to the FEC.
Fitzgerald's finance report covering activity from July 1 to July 25 was not available on the FEC website, but his campaign said he had raised more than $66,000 during the period. Add in an additional $3,000 in contributions reported since July 25, and that takes Fitzgerald's total amount raised to about $966,000.
From July 1 to July 25, Buchanan reported collecting $15,444.19 in contributions, according to a report posted on the FEC website. Since then, Buchanan has reported collecting an additional $31,500 in contributions, bringing his total haul to more than $2.16 million -- including more than $222,300 from Buchanan himself.
