SNEAD ISLAND --

Emerson Point Preserve's 365 acres located in western Palmetto features several multi-use trails for birding, dog-walking, hiking and fishing. The Portevant Temple Mound, a remnant from Native Americans, is a popular historical feature. The shore along the Manatee River is a favorite for visitors to sit and relax or dip their toes into the water, and a lookout tower affords a breathtaking view of Tampa Bay. The official address is 5810 17th St. W., Palmetto. More information is available on the Department of Natural Resources webpage at www.mymanatee.org -- Herald staff report
