Clearwater Threshers blank Bradenton Marauders, 2-0
CLEARWATER -- The Bradenton Marauders (14-12) were shut out for the ninth time this season, falling 2-0 at Bright House Field Tuesday night. Austin Wright (W, 8-4) stifled the Marauders through six innings to give the Threshers (16-10) their second straight win in the series.
Wright struck out six of the first 10 batters he faced and seven batters in all. The Marauders loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth, but that was the only serious threat Wright faced. He got a fly out from Benji Gonzalez to end the threat, then pitched a one-two-three sixth.
Tyler Waldron was sharp on the mound as well. Waldron pitched seven innings, striking out three. His only hiccup was a solo home run allowed to Anthony Hewitt in the third. It was Hewitt's 10th of the season.
The Threshers added an unearned run off Jhonathan Ramos in the eighth. Chris Kissock pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth for Clearwater. Mike Nesseth recorded three outs for his second save.
The series concludes Wednesday with a noon contest.
