Parts of Manatee County got hit with monsoon-like rains Friday, not good for baseball, which was postponed due to unplayable field conditions. The game was rescheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 5pm. The county got an inch-and-a-half of rain near Lake Manatee and up to an inch in other areas, said Eric Oglesby, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Ruskin. But the forecast for the weekend is for drier conditions. Saturday's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms and highs in the lower 90s. Sunday should be partly sunny, with a 50 percent chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, with highs in the lower 90s, according to Oglesby.
Andrew Fitzgerald, left, and Braden laRuffa use rollers to remove standing water from the outfield Friday at McKechnie Field in Bradenton. Workers at the stadium did what the could to counter the effects of the heavy rain Friday but their efforts were in vain -- the Bradenton Marauders game against the Brevard County Manatees was canceled and rescheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 5 p.m. PAUL VIDELA/pvidela@bradenton.com
