MANATEE -- Two people were taken to Blake Medical Center this morning after a car accident north of Palmetto.

The accident happened near the intersection of 45th Street East and U.S. 41 North, said Lt. Chris Miller, spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol.

The FHP was notified at 9:34 a.m. and arrived at the scene about 17 minutes later.

A gold Hyundai and truck were both traveling southbound when a rear-end collision took place.

The collision caused the Hyundai to travel across three lanes. It then rotated counter-clockwise and overturned, Miller said.

The driver and passenger in the Hyundai were taken to the hospital. Their names and conditions were unavailable, Miller said.

A dog was also in the car. It had a minor laceration and was taken to animal services.

Troopers are still investigating the incident, Miller said.
