Canadian tourist disarms woman who tried to rob him at Bradenton hotel

April 3, 2012

MANATEE -- A Canadian tourist was able to disarm a woman who tried to rob him at gunpoint a Bradenton hotel early Tuesday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The man was in the bar at the Siesta Inn, 2303 First St. E., about 2:50 a.m. when he was approached by the woman who asked a couple of times if he "wanted to have a good time." Each time the man declined, according to a news release.

The man went back to his room, where two friends of his were sleeping, to use the bathroom, leaving the door to the room propped open.

That's when the woman entered the room, went into the bathroom with the victim and offered another sexual proposition, which the man declined, according to the sheriff's office.

That's when the woman pulled a gun and demanded money. The victim said he didn't have any, and then took the gun and forced the woman out of the bathroom. She then walked away.

The woman was described as being in her 20s, standing 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds. She was wearing a dark-colored tank top and light green shorts and carrying a purse with a long strap.
