MANATEE -- The Manatee County Sheriff's Office has named the employee and deputy for March.
Lisa Montera, a child protection specialist, was investigating a case last month where a father was abusing his children, including breaking a 7-year-old's arm. The man had a no contact order with the kids but was in touch with them. Montera found out about the contact and was able to "shelter" the children from the abusive father, a media release said. She later received a letter from one of the children, where the teenage girl called Montera her hero.
The deputy of the month is Justin Warren. In February, Warren arrived at a house where a man barricaded himself inside his home and turned on the stove to fill the house with gas and threatened to ignite it if law enforcement came. Warren spoke to the man, who eventually surrendered.
His efforts "resulted in a calm and rational conclusion to this incident with no one being injured," a release said.
