When “Disenchanted” had its full-length, Florida premiere at the Golden Apple Dinner Theatre in October, I called the Disney-dissing musical “a laugh-out-loud joy ride of bouncy melodies goosed with plenty of snark, wit and a cleverly delivered message of female empowerment.”
In case you missed the brilliant show that brings to life to those beloved princesses locked up in the Mouse House, it returns to Sarasota for a month-long run Tuesday.
That same day in Orlando, where the musical originated, Town Square Productions is holding an informational get-together for potential investors to fund an off-Broadway production of “Disenchanted.”
The event will feature appearances by Don Frantz (executive producer), Laurie Brown (associate producer), Dennis Giacino (author/composer) and Fiely Matias (director).
“We’re so excited we can’t contain ourselves,” Giacino said when I reached him by phone last week at the Town Square Productions office in New York City.
He added, “Golden Apple Dinner Theatre is the last company we will be licensing the show to until further notice as we seek out the off-Broadway production.”
Again directed and choreographed by Kyle Ennis Turoff, the local production stars Jennifer Baker as Snow White, Mari Bryan as Cinderella and Alex Torres as Sleeping Beauty.
It also features Jenn Abreu as Mulan, Aileen Suseck as Pocahontas, Hilary Kraus as the Little Mermaid, Helen Holliday as Rapunzel, Ariel Blue as the Frog Princess and Roberta MacDonald as the Secondary Princess.
The cast remains the same as for the previous Golden Apple run except for the addition of Ellie Pattinson as Belle and Nikki White as The Little Mermaid for certain performances.
