SARASOTA -- The Community Foundation of Sarasota County recently awarded scholarships on behalf of the American Business Women’s Association -- Sunrise Chapter totaling $5,000 to students in Sarasota and Manatee counties.

Scholarships were awarded to Annie Sirpilla, Christine Massa, Marina Mironenko, Susan Custer, Victoria Vinnikova, Linda Loffer, and Jennifer Watters to assist in their higher education at an accredited college or university.

Since 1987, the Community Foundation has awarded charitable scholarships totaling more than $9.7 million.

Business leaders share strategies for success

SARASOTA -- Close to 500 business and community leaders kicked off “The Year of the Member” at the annual breakfast at the Sahib Shrine in Sarasota.

Attendees heard from five business and community leaders, who shared their strategies for success in their companies and organizations, as well as suggested strategies that our community can use to strengthen its economy.

Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Sarasota, gave an update from Washington.

Chamber Board Chair Shaun Merriman, CEO and president of Gateway Bank of Southwest Florida, kicked off “The Year of The Member” as he made announcements on new chamber initiatives for 2012. Two chamber members were also acknowledged at the event, Sharon Viner, vice president of the Sarasota CNL Bank, was presented the chamber Partner of the Year Award and Bob Leibold was awarded the first chamber Membership Master Award.

Longboat Key Club named top tennis resort

LONGBOAT KEY -- Longboat Key Club & Resort has been named the No. 1 tennis resort on the Gulf Coast of Florida and one of the top 10 tennis resorts nationwide by Tennis Magazine.

CAP Brand Marketing hosts advertising conference

SARASOTA -- CAP Brand Marketing hosted the Transworld Advertising Agency Network Winter 2012 conference in Sarasota which brought advertising agencies from across the United States and internationally to the four-day conference on communications and marketing.

The conference, which ran from Feb. 8 through Feb. 11 at the Longboat Key Club & Resort, highlighted the intersection of communications and technology.

The conference featured a visit to Ringling College of Art & Design and an agency-student forum where agency leaders interacted with Ringling students entering the field.

JournalistPR named as SCORE marketing agency

SARASOTA -- Manasota SCORE, the consulting service for entrepreneurs starting or running businesses, has hired JournalistPR LLC as its marketing agency.

JournalistPR is an all-journalist public relations agency that employs only people with newsroom training.

The Manasota Chapter of SCORE serves Manatee and Sarasota counties with more than 60 local volunteers who help small businesses with education and mentoring on a wide range of business issues.

Fundraising professionals named top chapter

SARASOTA -- The Association of Fundraising Professionals Southwest Florida Chapter has been named a 2011 Ten Star Chapter.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals honors chapters for achieving goals that align with key objectives in its long-range strategic plan. Chapters receive the Ten Star Award for performing specific activities designed to increase professionalism within fundraising and public awareness of the importance of philanthropy. Of the 213 chapters in AFP, 96 chapters received the Ten Star Award for 2011.

Neal Communities supports Take Stock in Children

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Neal Communities recently sponsored the fifth annual Leadership Pray Breakfast benefiting Take Stock in Children of Manatee County.

Bishop Frank Dewane of the Diocese of Venice attended and the keynote speaker was Mark Fernandez, senior vice president of the Tampa Bay Rays. Hundreds of local dignitaries, business, religious, educational, and community leaders were in attendance.

Voalté to host Chips for Charity in Las Vegas

SARASOTA -- Voalté, which offers mobile clinical communications technology and software for healthcare institutions, is hosting Chips for Charity Tuesday during the HIMSS 2012 Conference in Las Vegas. Voalté will donate up to $1,000 to each of the participants’ charities based on the results of a “craps” benefit game to be held at The Venetian Hotel.

Each participant will be armed with $500 in chips donated by Voalté, and will have the opportunity to parlay that $500 donation into $1,000 or more toward their hospital charity or foundation.
