February 20, 2012

MANATEE -- Two teenagers were arrested after deputies caught them with items stolen from a boat, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 12:15 a.m. Monday, a deputy stopped Todd M. Dyson and James Hardy for a bicycle violation at the intersection of Whitfield Avenue and Ninth Street East, according to a news release.

They were carrying an AM/FM marine stereo, a UHF two-way radio and emergency road/signal flares, and told deputies differing stories about how they acquired the items.

When they were placed in a patrol car, they were recorded discussing what story they were going to tell and when confronted, they admitted that they had stolen the items from a boat in a parking lot at 6620 19th St. E., according to the sheriff's office.

Dyson, 18, and Hardy, also 18, face burglary and theft charges. They were being held at the Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $6,000 each.
