By LAURA MOREL lmorel@bradenton.com BRADENTON [--] Only one person was injured during a nine-car collision on First Street near Manatee Avenue West on Saturday afternoon.

An 18-wheeler was heading south on the DeSoto Bridge when the driver failed to stop. “He says he lost his brakes and he hit two cars, causing them to hit other cars,” said Bradenton police Sgt. Eddie Weldon.

Only one person was injured. She was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

“That’s absolutely incredible,” Weldon said.

Five cars were towed away and four others were able to drive off, Weldon said.
