MANATEE -- A Sarasota man has been arrested and charged with attempting to steal a television from a Wal-Mart stock room.

Manatee County Sheriff’s deputies say Jerrod M. Baggs, 24, walked into the Wal-Mart at 8320 Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota, at 7:46 p.m. Thursday, went to the back of the store and entered the employee-only stock room.

Once in the stock room, Baggs lifted a 46-inch TV from a storage rack, a report states.

Baggs then carried the TV past the registers and attempted to exit the store, according to the report.

Baggs was stopped by a loss prevention officer, the report adds.

After being read his rights, Baggs refused to be interviewed by deputies, the report states.

Baggs, who is unemployed, was charged with a theft of an item valued from $300 to $5,000, the report states. He was arrested and bond set at $1,000. He bonded out of jail Friday, according to sheriff’s office records.
