BRADENTON -- The Manatee County Tax Collector will auction off the remaining assets of Eurostone Marble and Granite Inc. to cover unpaid back taxes.

All tangible property owned by the defunct Bradenton company will be listed during an 11-day online auction scheduled to open Thursday. Eurostone owes a total of $52,427 in unpaid property taxes from 2009 and 2010, according to the tax collector.

The auction may still be avoided if that balance is paid in full. Company principal James Reeves couldn’t be reached for comment Thursday.

“We talked with the owners when we went to issue the warrant,” said Michele Schulz, collections specialist from the tax collector’s office. “They just walked away from whatever was left in the building.”

The company, which was a specialty stone retailer for home design, opened for business in November 2002, according to the Florida Department of State.

Eurostone filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March 2010, which discharged all its other debt. Taxes, however, cannot be waived through bankruptcy.

Among items included in the eBay-style auction are office furniture, buffing equipment, and a 2003 Comandulli Omega 60 stone polisher -- believed to be the most valuable piece of property.

The land where the business was located at 601 Sixth Ave. W. in Bradenton, is not up for auction.

The auction will run from Feb. 23 to March 4 at www.assetauctionsonline.com.
