SARASOTA -- A man was arrested Tuesday for homicide, attempted robbery with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, all in connection with the death of former Manatee County resident Jeffrey Leonard Hill.
Roy Couran’s arrest is based on an attempted robbery and shooting that occurred at 1:50 a.m. on Jan. 25, which resulted in the death of Hill, 34, who died four hours after being shot, according to a Sarasota Police Department report.
Officers located Hill in the 1900 block of 24th Street. They were able to follow a blood trail from the 1900 block of 24th Street back to the 1800 block of 23rd Street, the report states.
Sarasota County Fire Rescue responded and transported Hill to Blake Medical Center where he died, the report states.
Hill was shot either during the robbery attempt or while fleeing from the perpetrators, according to the report.
Once shot, Hill ran northeast from the scene until he collapsed on the sidewalk in the 1900 block of 24th Street.
Hill was a long-time Sarasota resident, however detectives have information that Hill’s most recent address was in Manatee County, the report states.
Hill is the first homicide victim in the City of Sarasota in 2012.
Anyone with additional information about the attempted robbery and murder of Hill is asked to contact Det. DeFrancisco of the Sarasota Police Department at 941-954-7049.
