Posted: 12:00am on Jan 31, 2012; Modified: 12:10am on Jan 31, 2012

At the annual meeting of the National Shuffleboard Association on Jan. 23 at Trailer Estates, Don DeHart was elected posthumously as a Special Award Member of the USA/NSA Hall of Fame.

A resident of Johnson County, Ind., and Fairlane Acres, Don lost his life in a tragic motor vehicle accident 14 months ago.

Don was instrumental in resurrecting the Indiana Shuffleboard Association and served as president until his death. Don even created courts in his backyard and taught many to play.

A retired school administrator and farmer, Don became a leader and a winner at every level of the sport, having twice played on Team USA and won many honors during the few years available to him. Mrs. Kay DeHart serves as an assistant tournament director in the Southwest Coast District and in Indiana.

At this meeting, Jim Bailey completed his term as president of the USA/NSA and relinquished the post to Gus Bondi of Zephyrhills. Secretary Ninfa Bailey also completed her duties and is replaced by Landy Adkins of Port Charlotte. Congratulations to the Baileys for jobs well done.

Noteworthy

n On Jan. 27, Lee Jordan of Golf Lakes passed this life following a major stroke. A longtime member of the Florida Shuffleboard Hall of Fame, Lee taught many to shuffle. A retired lawyer and former resident of the Northwest, Lee had perfected arguably the most complex drift charts known to mankind. His encouragement led to progress among shufflers at Golf Lakes. Lee will be missed.
