An 11-year-old Coconut Creek boy was arrested and charged with arson on Thursday, according to Coral Springs Police.

The child is accused of starting two fires at a Kohl’s clothing store located at 9001 Atlantic Blvd., police said.

The first occurred on Jan. 9, at about 8:25 p.m., when flames were ignited inside the women’s department. Detectives discovered an accelerant was used and witnesses saw a young boy running from the area, police said.

At around 12 p.m. Thursday, another fire was started inside the women’s department of Kohl’s using an accelerant. This time witnesses gave a detailed description of the boy seen running from the area. Investigators located the young suspect sitting outside the Coral Square Mall, they said.

Police are urging anyone with information about these arsons to contact Det. Michael Savasta of the Coral Springs Police Department at 954-346-1773.
