Couple who died near Parrish in traffic crash were from Winter Haven

January 9, 2012

PARRISH -- The Florida Highway Patrol has identified a Winter Haven couple as the two people who were killed in a traffic accident about 8:25 p.m. Sunday in the Parrish area.

The victims were identified as John W. Washabaugh, 61, and Fay D. Washabaugh, 55.

They died when a 2005 Toyota Prius hit their motorcycle on State Road 62, three miles east of Saffold Road.

The driver of the Prius was west-bound on S.R. 62 when she ran off the road, over-corrected and re-entered the roadway, striking the motorcycle.

Both of the driver and passenger of the 2008 Harley Davidson were ejected and died at the scene, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Charges are pending the results of a blood alcohol test of the driver of the Prius, a 17-year-old Bradenton resident who was seriously injured in the crash.
