BRADENTON BEACH -- A Sarasota woman died after she was struck by a car in Bradenton Beach earlier this month, Bradenton Beach police said.

At about 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 8, a 65-year-old woman was crossing State Road 789 at a crosswalk when she was struck by a 1998 GMC Yukon. According to the report, the driver, a Cortez woman, was heading north on Gulf Drive with a passenger as they “were talking about and looking at the waves in the Gulf,” a traffic crash report said.

The passenger first noticed the woman crossing the road and yelled the driver’s name. The driver then saw the woman “out of the corner of her eye,” accelerated and tried to swerve around the woman, the report said.

But she hit the woman, who was “carried by the vehicle” until the driver stopped the car.

The victim, Antoinette Marie Pruss, was taken to Blake Medical Center, where she died hours later.
