‘Sick of looking at it,’ Anna Maria Island man removes neighbor’s fence

Published: November 9, 2011

MANATEE -- A man took down his Anna Maria Island neighbor’s chain link fence and had it hauled it away because he was “sick of looking at it.”

The suspect, whose name was not given in a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report because he hasn’t been charged with criminal mischief yet, also painted another fence belonging to the same neighbor without permission, the victim told deputies.

The victim’s home is in the 8800 block of Gulf Drive on Anna Maria Island.

The victim, who thinks the vandalism occurred some time between October 1 and November 2, told deputies the fence was on his property when he purchased the home. The victim estimates it will cost him $2,500 to replace and repair the fences.

When the victim confronted the suspect to ask him what happened to his fence, the suspect told the victim he had “hired a friend to haul the fence away because he was sick of looking at it,” the report states.

The victim told deputies that he would provide the sheriff’s office a survey that shows his property line, which, apparently, deputies need before taking further steps on the case.
