Tampa doctor found dead in Anna Maria weekend home

ANNA MARIA -- A Tampa-based orthopedic surgeon died Saturday afternoon in his weekend home, the sheriff’s office reports.

Dr. Blaine Markee was found floating face down in the hot tub at his home located in the 200 block of Periwinkle Plaza at about 6:15 p.m., a media release said.

Emergency personnel was called immediately when the body was found. Markee’s wife started CPR as she waited for help, the release said.

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, paramedics and fire rescue crews responded to the scene, the release said, but Markee was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death remains under investigation. There were no indications of foul play.
