8:50pm on Sep 12, 2011; Modified: 8:52pm on Sep 12, 2011

The Manatee County Central Library is pleased to announce MANA-CON: A Comics Convention for Teens to be held at the Library on Saturday, October 1st, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Open to all, but targeted toward teens ages 12 - 18, the event will be held in both the Central Library Auditorium and Meeting Room. Seating is free and will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

One of the day's highlights will be a two-hour “Anime Art Workshop” presented in the small Meeting Room by “Hihoshi” (Tiffany Ciper) starting at 1:00 p.m. Seating will be limited for this workshop, so advance registration is required. Register in person at the library, or by calling 941-748-5555 ext 6310.

There is no advance registration required for the other events that day. Among the many offerings and activities, there will be free comics, games, and Wii, hourly prizes, a “doodle booth” where teens can create their own art, a history of comics display, vendor booths and comic shops, and (while supplies last) plenty of posters, comics and other free goodies for teens to take home.

The Central Library is located at 1301 Barcarrota Boulevard West in downtown Bradenton, Florida. For more information, please call the library at 941.748-5555, ext 6310.
