Four injured in crash on State Road 70

September 7, 2011

MANATEE -- Four people were seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash on State Road 70 on Tuesday.

The 53-year-old driver of a tractor-trailer was westbound in the right lane on S.R. 70 at 11:51 a.m. when he swung wide to turn north on Third Street West, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

When the North Port-based trucker made his wide turn, a 25-year-old Bradenton man driving a 1992 Buick in the left lane of S.R. 70 with a 71-year-old woman passenger veered to avoid the trailer and struck a Dodge Durango that was eastbound on S.R. 70, the report states.

The driver and passenger of the Buick and the 34-year-old woman driving the Durango and her 60-year-old woman passenger were all hospitalized in serious condition, the report adds.

The trucker, who was not injured, was cited by Florida Highway Patrol for improper lane change and the driver of the Buick was cited for careless driving, the report stated.
