N.Y. firm to bring 30 jobs to Manatee

MANATEE -- A company that is expected to bring 30 new jobs to Manatee County plans to begin its powder coating production in 60 days.

Trogan Florida Powder Coating, on Hardin Avenue just north of Tallevast Road near Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, is in the process of setting up its manufacturing equipment in a 97,000-square-foot facility, said Carl Troiano, chief executive officer and owner.

Its parent company, Trojan Powder Coating is located in Bay Shore, N.Y., in a 78,000 square-foot facility on Long Island. The firm decided to open a Florida facility because several major clients are in the area including PGT in Venice, which makes impact-resistant windows and doors.

The firm is a member of the American Architectural Manufacturers Association and is a certified applicator and coater of resin-based powder coatings. Materials can also be specially treated to look like high-end wood grains, marbles and granites. Faux finishes can be applied to window parts, doors, handrails columns, wall panels and furniture.

Any steel or aluminum part can be painted with the environmentally safe paint powder process, Troiano said.

“We make it look pretty,” said Troiano, who is making regular trips from New York to set up the new plant in southern Manatee County.

Plans are to hire an initial six people when manufacturing begins in October and then up to 30 in the next three to four years, he said.

Troiano said Manatee County has approved incentive money for the facility’s opening here but Sharon Hillstrom, associate director of the Manatee County Economic Development Council, said Thursday she could not comment.
