Mattison’s Ernie Els Wine-Pairing Dinner: An Ernie Els wine-pairing dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. July 28 at Mattison’s Forty-One, 7275 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. This five-course wine-pairing dinner features wines from the Ernie Els Winery in South Africa. Lynton Kaiser from the vineyard will attend. The dinner is $75 per person plus tax and gratuity. Ernie Els is a World Golf Hall of Fame inductee and has established a collection of six magnificent South African red wines.

Sarasota-Manatee Originals sale: The Sarasota-Manatee Originals is offering a weeklong, half-off sale beginning July 25, with thousands of dollars in discounted dining certificates to a limited selection of member restaurants. Apron’s Cooking School: Publix at University Walk , 2875 University Parkway, will present the following classes:

Today: Ground Rules, 6 p.m.

Thursday: Quick Fix, 6 p.m.

Friday: A Lo Cubano (Cuban Style), 6:30 p.m.

Casa Italia: 2080 Constitution Blvd, Sarasota, is hosting an Italian cooking class and food tasting with Nita Mathur at 6:30 p.m.July 29. The cost per person is $50, and a copy of the recipes will be provided. The menu is: Bruschetta with Prosciutto di Parma & Piave Fresco, Aromatic Salmon baked in a pouch, Mediterranean Vegetable Stew, Creamy Polenta with Parmigiano Reggiano and Marinated Strawberry Parfait. ON THE MENU

Mattison’s $5 appetizer menu: Chef Paul Mattison announces new menu items available exclusively on the $5 App Menu offered 3-7p.m. at Mattison’s City Grille, 1 N. Lemon Ave., Sarasota. Appetizers include Cuban pulled pork sliders with a habanero-mango glaze and mojo mayonnaise, mac and cheese, crab-vegetable sushi roll with soy sauce and Thai chilli glaze, bruschetta with fresh pesto goat cheese and tomatoes on grilled rustic bread topped with basil olive oil and an aged balsamic drizzle with shredded aged Parmesan, crispy sesame shrimp with an apple-scented slaw, chicken satay with Sambal peanut sauce and steamed mussels with garlic, white wine, tomatoes, and sweet Thai basil. Prix fixe: Harry’s Continental Kitchens, 525 St. Jude’s Drive, Longboat Key, debuts a globally inspired three-course prix fixe menu with paired wines for $25 a person or $39 a person with premium wine pairings.
