HOLMES BEACH -- Jim Brady, who founded the West Coast Surf Shop 47 years ago, has decided to put the legendary surfing apparel store up for sale.
“We’re just looking toward retirement. We’ve been kicking the idea around for about five years now,” said Brady, who started the shop when he was 16. Brady is selling the store’s contents and his 7,500-square feet, three-story building as a package and has listed it with Mike Norman Realty. The shop has been in Holmes Beach since its founding and at its current location at 3902 Gulf Drive since 1979.
Boyd receives chamber advocate award
BRADENTON -- Rep. Jim Boyd, R-Bradenton, received the Florida Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Advocate Award.
The Florida Chamber’s Distinguished Advocate Award recognizes legislators who championed key issues on the Florida chamber’s annual agenda for jobs. Boyd sponsored two priorities on the Florida chamber’s agenda for jobs including reform of Citizens Property Insurance Corp. and legislation to help curb instances of fraud and abuse in PIP claims in Florida.

Workshops set for businesses July 18, 25
LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Center for Faith and Freedom at Lakewood Ranch is hosting a two-part workshop series for profit and nonprofit businesses on July 18 and July 25th.
The series, presented by Robert Vecchione of Cobrooke Ideas I Architecture I Design, will engage participants in critical thinking and creative thought.
The workshops for for businesses will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. at 7357 Merchant Circle.
The first session of the series, “The Thinker’s Boot Camp,” will help attendees realize their vision and revitalize their personal mission by engaging in a non-linear thinking process.

Boeing: $4 trillion in new aircraft needed by 2030
PARIS -- Boeing Co. upped its forecast Thursday for aircraft demand over the next 20 years, saying airlines will need $4 trillion worth of new planes to meet a pickup in passenger numbers, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.
Airlines will need 33,500 new jets from now through 2030, Boeing said in a statement.
Boeing executives released the new forecast ahead of next week’s Paris Air Show, which highlights the planemaker’s industry-dominating rivalry with Europe’s Airbus.
