-- Condominium and home sales surged on Anna Maria Island last month compared to April 2010, an island Realtor said.

There were 46 closings reported on the MyFlorida Multiple Listing Service last month, a 59-percent increase from April 2010, said John van Zandt of Island Real Estate.

Single-family homes led the way, with 27 sales compared to 16 last year. The $293 average price per square foot was 5 percent higher, while the average sales price rose from $523,083 in April 2010 to $553,296 last month.

Condo sales rose by 50 percent, from 12 last year to 18 in April. Although the average price per square foot fell from $279 to $265, the average sale climbed from $320,750 to $331,258 as more larger units sold, van Zandt said.
