BRADENTON -- A 48-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for wrestling with a child, the Bradenton Police Department reports.
Jeffrey Johnson was arrested at about 11:15 p.m. when someone called police claiming to hear an argument going on in the backyard of the residence.
Johnson told police he was teaching the male victim wrestling moves so he doesn’t get beaten up at school, a report said. The victim gave a different story.
He claims to have been sitting on a chair watching TV when Johnson told him he wanted to wrestle, the victim refused to participate. That’s when Johnson grabbed him and started wrestling him, the report said.
The victim advised that he was in a headlock and that Johnson was hitting his head against the arm of a chair, the report said, all the while the victim was begging to be let free.
It wasn’t until a female yelled at Johnson that he let go.
The female also told police this wasn’t the first time he’d wrestled with the victim.
Johnson was later Tasered by one of the officers after he began to resist arrest. He’s been charged with child abuse and resisting arrest without violence. He was released from Manatee County jail Wednesday on a $2,250 bond.
