Florida Libertarians plan statewide protest Tuesday over red light cameras

Published: April 11, 2011

Libertarian and tea party groups across Florida on Tuesday plan to protest red light cameras, hoping to rally public support for a bill before the Legislature that would ban their use.

The cameras are controversial but continue to find a way into communities across the state. On Thursday, the Tampa City Council voted them in, along with a $158 ticket.

Critics contend they create accidents and violate the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The protests are being planned by the Campaign for Liberty, the Libertarian Party of Florida, the Republican Liberty Caucus, Florida Civil Rights Association, the 1787 Radio Network, and several local tea party and 9/12 groups.
