BRADENTON -- The Bradenton Marauders get along well with home openers.

For the second straight year, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ high Single-A affiliate opened McKechnie Field with a bang, bashing the Charlotte Stone Crabs 13-0 in front of 2,644 fans.

They beat the Fort Myers Miracle 18-3 in last year’s home opener, which also was the first game in Marauders history.

As kids played in a black-and-yellow bounce house on the concourse, the Marauders (1-1) bounced all over the Stone Crabs, winning last year’s rematch of the Florida State League’s South Division championship series.

Pirates catcher Chris Snyder, rehabbing a sore back, hit a home run in the first inning and drove in six runs.

Four Marauders pitchers limited the Stone Crabs to six hits. And four different Marauders scored at least two runs.

After heading back to Charlotte County today, the Marauders and Stone Crabs return to McKechnie Field on Sunday to wrap up the season-opening series. It will be the first of a seven-game homestand for Bradenton.
