MANATEE -- Economic incentives have helped lasso a Western-themed restaurant chain to Manatee County.

LongHorn Steakhouse plans to open its first Manatee location, lured by a discount on road impact fees and payments for job creation, officials said Thursday.

The restaurant will be in an outparcel in the Centre Point Commons shopping center northwest of the 14th Street West/Cortez Road West intersection.

The county -- through its 14th Street West Community Redevelopment Agency -- has agreed to pay $500 for every job LongHorn creates and maintains for a not-yet specified period of time, said Karen Stewart, the county’s economic development program manager.

The county also will reduce the restaurant’s transportation impact fee by 25 percent, she said.
