15-year-old cyclist critically injured in accident in Bradenton

MANATEE -- A 15-year-old bicyclist was critically injured when he was struck by a car about 1:15 p.m. today, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The bicyclist was traveling northwest on U.S. 41 north of Orlando Avenue in the left lane. A 2003 Buick was southbound in the middle lane of U.S. 41 approaching Orlando Avenue.

The cyclist traveled into the path of the Buick. The cyclist was thrown onto the automobile's windshield, and over the top of the vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The cyclist was taken to All Childrens Hospital in St. Petersburg.
