MANATEE -- A call to deputies about a battery on a married couple at the Carmike Royal Palm 20 quickly escalated Christmas night

causing four juveniles and one adult to be placed under arrested, the sheriff’s office reports.

The incident occurred at around 10 p.m. when deputies got word that a man and his wife had been battered by two male juveniles, both were arrested, according to a media release.

As deputies were investigating the manager of the theater asked anyone without a ticket to leave. When a deputy asked one juvenile to leave several times the teenager refused and committed battery on the deputy, the release said.

At one point, Destiny McNeil, 20, a relative of the juvenile attempted to intervene in the arrest and was arrested herself, the release said. Another male juvenile also hit the same deputy in the arm and resisted arrest after he was asked to leave the area.

That’s when a crowd of about 300 people formed and all available deputies were asked to come out to the theater to help restore order to the area, the release said. The manager then shut down the location.

No one was seriously injured.

The situation is under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the charges and names of the juveniles who were arrested have not been released as of Sunday morning but their ages do range from 15 to 17-years-old.

McNeil was charged with resisting arrest without violence and was released from Manatee County jail Sunday on a $750 bond.
