9/9 Business briefs: Fresh Market helps fight diabetes

SARASOTA — The Fresh Market, 5251 University Pkwy., will participate in the company’s 16th annual charity to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The Hope Floats Sidewalk Sale is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday in which The Fresh Market will have food and refreshments in exchange for a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Local residents Kaylah Gunst, 7, of Bradenton, and Hannah Carlo, 11, of Sarasota, both members of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, will attend the fundraiser to greet other local children struggling with type 1 diabetes.

Chamber luncheon topic will be public health

BRADENTON — The Manatee Chamber of Commerce will host a luncheon with Dr. Jennifer Bencie, administrator of the Manatee County Health Department, on Oct. 1.

Bencie will discuss the role of public health in the county and the health response efforts during disasters.

The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bradenton Country Club, 4646 Ninth Ave. W.

The cost is $25 for chamber members and $50 for nonmembers.

Reservations are required by Sept. 24 and can be made by contacting Lisa Reeder at 748-4842, ext. 123.

Sarasota EDC to honor local businesses

SARASOTA — The Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County will recognize outstanding businesses from the local area with its annual Hall of Fame Awards luncheon Sept. 17.

Those interested in attending the 11:30 a.m. luncheon at the Hyatt Regency, 1000 Boulevard of the Arts, Sarasota, can register by contacting the Sarasota EDC at (941) 309-1200, ext. 103.

The deadline to register is Friday. Individual registration is $65, a corporate table is $750 and a half-corporate table is $375.
