Garrett Donahue, 13, of Palmetto, is not letting his lack of a driver’s license or towing vehicle squash his fishing plans. The barefoot Lincoln Middle School seventh-grader used pedal power to tow his 12-foot fishing boat to the water’s edge along the Manatee River to fish around the breakwater of Regatta Point Marina in Palmetto. Garrett was met along the seawall by several of his friends who were excited to see Garrett and his tiny yacht approach, as if they were seeing a 60-foot Hatteras coming down the road. Determination, patience, and endurance, are virtues just as important to a fisherman as bait, and this young man will be a force that fish will have to reckon with for a very long time.
