MANATEE — A call from a resident led Manatee County sheriff’s deputies to the 4500 block of 35th Court East at 2 a.m. Sunday where they discovered a man and a woman in the act of breaking into vehicles.

The pair — Elizabeth Walpole, 19 and Brett Tanksley, 24 — told deputies they are homeless, according to a sheriff’s report.

During an interview with the suspects, deputies learned that the pair entered two unlocked vehicles in the area and removed items, according to the report.

Deputies were able to recover the items and return them to the victims, the report adds.

The pair told deputies that they had committed similar crimes in other areas of Manatee County.

Walpole was also charged with giving a false name and Tanksley was also charged with knowingly driving without a driver’s license, the report states.
