MANATEE — Six men were arrested Wednesday for trespassing on Mosaic Mines and Southwest Florida Water Management District, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.
Approximately 3,000 pounds of palmetto berries were taken by the suspects, which they picked and bagged.
Palmetto berries, sold for about 85 cents a pound, are a multimillion-dollar industry, used mainly for herbal treatment that might fend off prostate problems.
The bags were turned over to the Southwest Florida Water Management District.
