The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee recently hired new faculty members for the fall semester at both its north and south Sarasota County locations. They include Lyn Boyer, educational leadership; Keith Cavedo, English; Elizabeth Carlson, accounting; Kiyoung Chang, finance; Cihan Cobanoglu, school of hotel and restaurant management; Wilma Davidson, English; Susan Fulton, communication sciences and disorders; Nancy Haas, management; Patricia Hunsader, childhood education; Lauriann Jones-Moore, psychology; Jean Kabongo, management; Janet King, childhood education; Heather Lively, accounting; Terry Osborn, dean, education; Melissa Sloan, ISS and sociology and Donna Trent, ISS.

The University of South Florida System Faculty Advisory Council has elected Elizabeth Larkin, professor in the College of Education at USF Sarasota-Manatee, as its first president. Larkin will serve as faculty representative on the USF Board of Trustees. The council also elected Elizabeth Bird, professor of anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at USF’s Tampa campus, as vice president.

David P. Lanni has joined Shinn & Co. LLC, certified public accountants and consultants, as a senior manager. Lanni has 15 years experience in both tax and audit. He received his bachelor of science degree in accounting from Oakland University in Michigan.

Hope Kerkof has joined Superior Bank as a personal banker. Kerkof previously had a real estate radio show and was the chief executive officer of Coast Capital Mortgage Group.

Dr. Sarah A. Jackson has accepted a position at the MEDCO Cardiovascular Resource Center of Tampa as a clinical pharmacist.

Ed Davis has been named director of sales and marketing for the Holiday Inn Express Bradenton. He is also vice president of the board at The Sarasota Palms Condominium Association.

Melissa Coury has been named mortgage loan officer for HomeBanc based in its Lakewood Ranch office. She has more than 10 years of mortgage banking experience.

Angela Massaro-Fain, president and founder of Grapevine Communications, recently accepted leadership positions with two small business resource organizations. Beginning this fall, she will chair the Small Business Council of The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, and become a member of the Advisory Board of Manasota SCORE.

Acupuncture physician Ellen Teeter will be attending the Florida State Oriental Medical Association Annual Conference. Teeter has served on the board of the State of Florida’s professional organization for acupuncture for the past seven years and will be volunteering her time to help with the conference.

Alden Weichel and Bob Wentzell of Bradenton Insurance recently were recognized for 25 years of professionalism and service excellence representing Westfield Insurance. Bradenton Insurance has represented Westfield since 1985. Westfield presented Weichel and Wentzell with a commemorative statuette.

Bobby Davis was recently honored by UPS for completing 40 years of service with the company. Davis began his career in 1970 as a car washer with the company.

Brittany Lamont has joined the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce as the new communication manager. Her position will include working with chamber staff and partners to manage all communication and public relations initiatives within the chamber.

Deborah Volker, manager at a local McDonald’s, was awarded a Smart Car Passion Coupe for her excellent leadership. The corporate initiative, which took place each Saturday in June, challenged managers to improve their restaurant’s performance in a number of designated areas, including speed and quality of service. By finishing in the top 2 percent of all McDonald’s U.S. restaurants, Volker was entered into a national drawing for the Smart Car and won.

Lisa Emory and Darrell Turner of Turner Tree & Landscape have been named to the board of directors for the United Way of Manatee County.
